What are the hazards of eating beef at night?

A new study published in the United States "Diabetes" magazine found that night workers (especially night shift workers) should avoid eating iron-rich foods such as beef in the evening, otherwise it is more likely to increase the risk of many kinds of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes .

In the new study, Dr. Judith A. Simcox, a researcher at the University of Utah, and colleagues found that eating iron-rich foods such as beef at night disturbs the liver clock. The role of iron is just like the gear of the liver clock, which can promote liver overload, strictly control blood sugar levels, and prevent blood sugar from rising. In the normal condition of the liver clock, iron is good for health. However, if the intake time of iron is not synchronized with the liver clock, such as eating too much beef and other iron-rich food at night, it may cause abnormal blood glucose levels. For the night-shifted people whose liver clock has been out of sync with the brain clock (human main clock), eating iron-rich foods in the evening will more easily exacerbate the synchrony of the two clocks and increase the risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes and stroke. In addition to beef, iron-rich foods include: dark green leafy vegetables, brown rice, beans, and dried fruits such as dried apricots and raisins.
