Google Glass welcomes new applications: wearable cases

Release date: 2014-06-25

Google Glass is seeking to enter hospitals and clinics across the United States.

To meet the growing demand from doctors for Google Glass, Drchrono, an electronic case company based in Mountain View, Calif., developed a new application for the device and called it the first "wearable case."

A doctor who has registered a Drchrono application for Google Glass can use the application to record the results of the consultation or the operation with the patient's consent. Videos, photos, and notes can be stored in the patient's electronic case or in a cloud-based storage and collaboration service-based Box, and are available to patients when needed.

Boxy spokesperson and former Google Health employee Missy Krasner said that as far as she knows, at least 20 venture capital-backed innovation companies are doing business. Most Google Glass apps, including Augmedix and Pristine, comply with the Federal Privacy Act HIPAA.

To develop this service, Drchrono worked closely with Box, early investors and the Google Glass team.

Google Glass is intended to enter the consumer mass market, but the eccentric appearance has been criticized by some people. However, it is very good for industry experts to quickly see their value in the hands-free equipment market.

"Google is still in its infancy in determining the most viable use of Google Glass," said Drchrono co-founder Daniel Kivatinos. "But some doctors need Google Glass, so Google is providing resources and support to developers."

Drchrono claims to have 60,000 physicians registered as doctors and patients using their electronic medical records, and more than 300 of them have chosen to use the app. The app is currently free to use, but Drchrono may charge a fee in the near future.
